Wendigo – Variegated – Ash Grey, Pale Grey, and Olive Green

A mythological creature or evil spirit originating from the folklore of Plains and Great Lakes Natives as well as some First Nations in Canada. The wendigo is often said to be a malevolent spirit, depicted as a supernatural cannibalistic creature with human-like characteristics and a heart of ice, which possesses human beings. Strongly associated with winter, the north, coldness, famine, and starvation, it is said to invoke feelings of insatiable greed/hunger, the desire to cannibalize other humans, and the propensity to commit murder in those that fall under its influence. The wendigo is seen as the embodiment of gluttony, greed, and excess: never satisfied after killing and consuming one person, they are constantly searching for new victims.

Basil H. Johnston, an Ojibwe teacher and scholar from Ontario, gives a description of a wendigo:

The Wendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tightly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash-gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Wendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody ... Unclean and suffering from suppuration of the flesh, the Wendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption.

Wendigo will be available to ship on select bases, other weights may be available as a special order. Multiple skein orders may be dyed-to-order ensuring a proper dye match.

Shipping & Returns

When will my order ship?

Yarn and fiber may be listed as in stock and ready to ship but depending on actual quantity ordered and availability it may be dyed just for you.  Please allow 5-7 business days for your order to ship.  All in stock orders will ship within 10 business days.

Where is my yarn?
If you have not received a shipping confirmation, please check your spam folder to make sure it wasn’t marked as spam. If it has been more than 10 business days from when you received your shipping confirmation, please email your order number and a request to check on the status of your order to info@smwfiberfabrics.com.

Why does my yarn look different from the photo?
Photos on the product listings are examples of the colorway you will receive.  I try to include different bases as the different fiber contents can take the dye differently.  I use the same dye formulations when reproducing colorways, but due to the hand dyed nature and the difference in computer screens, the product you receive my look slightly different than the original photo.  The appearance of the colorway and the saturation may differ from time to time, which adds to the uniqueness of the yarn.  Multiple skein orders will always be dyed together to help ensure consistency within ordered colorways.

My order is wrong? What should I do?
Contact me via the form on the website. I am sorry but occasionally I could mix-up skeins when packing orders, but I will always make it right.

RETURNS & EXCHANGES

Please be aware when placing your order that skeins and fibers are hand dyed, and natural variations in color should be expected.  Slight differences in colorways or light spots may occur and these are not reasons for return.

If you have a problem with your order, please contact me within 14 days of receipt.  I put a lot of time into producing quality products and fulfilling orders. With that said, I will only accept returns on items that are still skeined and in the condition that it was sent to you. I do not accept exchanges. Returns or refunds will not be issued for shipments made to incorrect addresses or for shipping charges.

All yarn is shipped with the original ties on each skein. Returns are not accepted on 'tangled' yarn. It is the responsibility of the customer to correctly transition their yarn from a skein to cake/ball prior to knitting.

Returns are not accepted on custom ordered yarn or one of a kind yarn. Exceptions include incorrect orders or damaged items.
